Rahr Standard 6-Row Malt for Classic American Brewing and Adjunct-Friendly Grain Bills
Rahr Standard 6-Row Malt is a traditional American base malt known for its clean grain profile and strong enzymatic power. It is especially useful in recipes that include corn, rice, or other adjuncts, which is why 6-row remains a practical choice for brewers building classic American-style lagers, cream ales, and other crisp, lighter-bodied beers.
Compared with many 2-row malts, 6-row is often selected when brewers want more enzyme strength and a more traditional American base-malt approach. That does not mean it is only for old-school recipes, but it does make it particularly relevant when the grist includes ingredients that benefit from stronger conversion support.
What Brewers Use It For
- Adjunct lagers: A natural fit alongside corn or rice additions
- Cream ales and classic American ales: Provides a clean, crisp malt base
- Conversion support: Helpful when the grain bill includes lower-diastatic adjuncts
What to Expect
Rahr Standard 6-Row Malt brings a pale base and a straightforward grainy character that stays out of the way when the rest of the recipe is meant to define the beer. It is a practical choice for brewers who want utility, enzyme strength, and a classic American brewing feel rather than a richer modern pale-malt profile.
If you are building adjunct-friendly lagers or traditional American recipes and want the classic advantages of 6-row, Rahr Standard 6-Row Malt is still a very workable base malt.
