Weyermann Eraclea Pilsner Malt for Italian-Style Lager
Weyermann Eraclea Pilsner Malt is a pale base malt made from Italian malting barley grown in northern Italy near the Adriatic coast. Weyermann describes it as an aromatic malt for crisp, aromatic Mediterranean beers, with good processability, good yield, excellent foam values, high enzyme activity, and a malty-sweet profile with light honey notes.
Use it when the grist should support an Italian pilsner, German pilsner, pale lager, Mediterranean-style lager, American lager, pre-Prohibition lager, or Italian grape ale without adding heavy caramel or toast. Weyermann lists use up to 100% of the grist.
What It Adds
- Flavor: malty-sweet foundation with light honey notes.
- Color: very pale, with Weyermann listing 2.5-4.5 EBC / 1.4-2.1 Lovibond.
- Performance: high enzyme activity, good yield, and strong foam values.
- Best fit: Italian pilsner, pale lager, German pilsner, Mediterranean lager, and crisp American lager.
Recipe Planning
Build the grist around Eraclea when you want a pale lager base with a little more aromatic identity than a neutral malt. For more options, browse our brewing grains and specialty grains.
