Pacific Snap Cold IPA Extract Recipe Kit for Cold IPA / West Coast Pilsner Character

Pacific Snap Cold IPA is an extract-friendly take on the modern Cold IPA idea: IPA-level hop aroma and bitterness with a cleaner, drier, lager-like finish. The style grew from brewers chasing a crisp alternative to sweeter IPAs, using lean fermentables and cool, clean fermentation to make the hops feel sharp and bright.

This kit uses extract plus dextrose to keep the body from becoming heavy, then layers Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe for citrus, berry, pine, and tropical aroma. Choose it when you want a hop-forward extract beer that drinks dry and modern rather than syrupy or old-school.

This is the extract version. If you want the all-grain format for a different brew day, see the companion listing: Pacific Snap Cold IPA | All-grain Recipe Kit | 5 Gallons.

Grain Milling

Flavor and Brewing Character

The extract version keeps the recipe accessible while preserving the dry, hop-forward intent. Dextrose helps lighten the finish so the beer avoids the sweeter body that can make extract IPAs feel heavy.

Fermentation Requirements

  • Recommended fermentation range: 58–64°F with clean lager/hybrid yeast or very clean ale yeast.
  • Pitch healthy yeast into fully chilled wort; do not pitch into hot wort.
  • Use gravity readings, not airlock activity alone, to confirm fermentation is complete.
  • Package only after gravity is stable and the beer tastes clean for the style.
  • Plan for a diacetyl rest near the end of fermentation if using lager yeast, followed by cold conditioning when possible.

Detailed Kit Contents

  • Briess Pilsen Light DME: 6 lbs.
  • Dextrose: 1 lb.
  • Carafoam® Steeping Grains: 4 Ounces
  • Citra Hops: 2 Ounces
  • Mosaic Hops: 2 Ounces
  • Simcoe Hops: 2 Ounces
  • SafLager W-34/70, NovaLager, or clean West Coast yeast: 1 Sachet

Why Brewers Choose This Kit

This is a good extract kit for brewers ready to move beyond basic IPA kits but not ready for a full mash. It delivers modern hop character with a clearer, sharper profile than hazy IPA.

Brewing Notes

  • Dissolve DME fully off heat to avoid scorching.
  • A partial boil can work, but full-volume boiling improves bitterness and hop expression.
  • Dry hop gently and avoid oxygen pickup during packaging.
