Glass Carboy with Narrow Top | 3, 5, 6 & 6.5 Gallon Sizes
Narrow-Mouth Glass Carboy Fermenters
These glass carboys are traditional narrow-mouth fermentation vessels for beer, wine, cider, mead, and other small-batch fermentation projects. Choose from 3, 5, 6, and 6.5 gallon sizes so the vessel matches your batch volume, headspace needs, and whether the carboy is being used for primary fermentation, secondary aging, or storage.
Glass is easy to inspect visually and does not hold odors the way scratched plastic can. The tradeoff is handling: glass is heavy, slippery when wet, and breakable. Use a stable surface, avoid sudden temperature changes, and move full carboys carefully.
Choosing a size
- 3 gallon: useful for small batches, split batches, mead, wine, and trial ferments.
- 5 gallon: commonly used for secondary aging or finished-volume projects with less headspace.
- 6 gallon: helpful for many 5 gallon wine, cider, mead, or beer fermentations that need some headspace.
- 6.5 gallon: gives extra room for more active primary fermentation when the recipe needs it.
Setup notes
Match the carboy with the correct stopper, airlock or blowoff setup, cleaner, sanitizer, and transfer equipment. For active primary fermentation, leave enough headspace for foam, fruit, krausen, or other additions.
