PBW (Powdered Brewery Wash) | Five Star Chemicals
Powerful, non-corrosive cleaner for kettles, kegs, fermenters & more
PBW is the brewer’s go-to alkaline cleaner for removing tough organic soils, proteins, and stubborn build-up. Its oxygen-based formula penetrates hard-to-reach areas to lift residue without harsh scrubbing. Safe on stainless steel, rubber, soft metals, and plastics, PBW is ideal for cleaning fermenters, kegs, kettles, lines, faucets, and brewery hardware.
Why Brewers Choose PBW
- Versatile & effective: Cuts through krausen rings, hop oils, trub, and protein films
- Non-corrosive & skin-safe: Gentler than caustic cleaners; effective in warm or cold water
- Deep-cleaning action: Oxygen-based formula reaches nooks and threads for thorough results
- Rinse clean: Leaves surfaces ready for sanitizing
Available Sizes
- 1 lb container
- 4 lb container
- 50 lb bucket
Usage Instructions
- Kettles: Dissolve 1–2 oz per gallon of water. Soak or recirculate as needed.
- Fermenters, kegs & tanks: Use ¾ oz per gallon of water.
- Circulation/CIP: Heat solution to 130°–180°F and circulate for at least 30 minutes.
- Soaking: Heat to 140°F and soak for 4 hours; or soak cold overnight.
- Rinse: Thoroughly rinse all surfaces with water after cleaning.
- Freshness: Use mixed solution within 8–10 hours for best results.
Pro Tips
- Clean immediately after a brew or keg kick—old soils harden and are harder to remove.
- Flip Corny kegs to drain while pushing solution through the dip tubes for a complete flush.
- PBW cleans—sanitize afterward. Follow with your preferred sanitizer (e.g., Star San) per label directions.
