Conical Fermenters
Conical Fermenters for Beer, Cider, Wine, and Mead
Conical fermenters are fermentation vessels shaped to collect yeast, trub, and sediment at the bottom of the cone. They can make transfers, sampling, cleaning, and yeast management easier depending on the design, fittings, and accessories used with the fermenter.
Choose a fermenter around batch size, headspace, material, cleaning access, valve layout, pressure or transfer needs, and where the vessel will sit during fermentation. PET and stainless options can both work well, but they differ in weight, durability, accessory compatibility, and cleaning habits.
Match the fermenter to the process
- Batch volume: leave enough headspace for krausen, fruit additions, or active fermentation.
- Transfer plan: decide whether gravity transfer, closed transfer, sampling, or yeast collection matters for your batches.
- Cleaning access: choose a vessel you can clean thoroughly between batches.
- Temperature control: make sure the fermenter fits the chamber, wrap, or cooling setup you plan to use.
