BrewBuilt® X3 Jacketed Conical Fermenter | Stainless Steel
BrewBuilt X3 jacketed conical fermenter
The BrewBuilt X3 Jacketed Conical Fermenter is a stainless steel, glycol-jacketed fermenter for brewers who want tighter fermentation temperature control, cleaner transfers, and a more capable conical than a bucket, carboy, or basic stainless fermenter. This SoCal Brewing Supply listing covers the 7, 14, 25, and 38 gallon X3 sizes.
The X3 is built around a 304 stainless steel tank with an external cooling jacket, neoprene insulation sleeve, 8 inch tri-clamp lid opening, 3 inch bottom dump, horizontal cone ports, and BrewBuilt's Pressure Pack lid with Clear Float floating dip tube. It is a serious fermenter for brewers building a temperature-controlled cellar, a larger homebrew system, or a small pilot-batch setup.
Why brewers choose the X3
- External cooling jacket: built-in jacket ports let you connect glycol chilling without putting an internal cooling coil inside the beer.
- Pressure Pack lid: includes a floating dip tube and draft-style quick disconnect posts for sampling, closed transfer, or serving workflows.
- Clear Flex Chamber bottom dump: the clear collection chamber helps you see fermentation activity, remove trub, harvest yeast, and connect accessories for purging, oxygenation, carbonation, or ingredient additions.
- Stable four-leg frame: reinforced legs and adjustable feet give the fermenter a wide, steady base, with room under the cone for the dump valve and collection chamber.
- Sanitary stainless construction: BrewBuilt lists 304 stainless steel construction, mirror-polished finish, and interior welds that are welded, ground, and polished.
Temperature control and glycol setup
The external cooling jacket is the main reason to choose the X3 over a simpler fermenter. Pair it with a glycol chiller, controller, and insulated tubing so you can hold ale fermentation temperatures, lager cool, cold crash, or condition without adding coils inside the fermenter. The jacket uses 1.5 inch tri-clamp cooling connections.
For a cleaner setup, pair the fermenter with the BrewBuilt insulated tubing kit. If you are building a full glycol system, browse fermentation temperature control equipment and compatible glycol accessories.
Ports, lid, and dump system
The X3 has an 8 inch tri-clamp lid opening for access and cleaning, five 1.5 inch tri-clamp lid openings, horizontal welded cone ports, a 2 inch tri-clamp port for a compatible immersion heater, a 1.5 inch thermowell, and a 3 inch tri-clamp bottom dump with 3 inch butterfly valve. The large bottom dump is useful for yeast, trub, and dry-hop management, especially on heavily hopped beers.
The included Clear Flex Chamber attaches under the dump valve. Brewers can use it to collect trub, monitor activity, harvest yeast, purge with CO2, or introduce additions when the setup is configured correctly.
Pressure, transfers, and safety note
The included Pressure Pack and Clear Float floating dip tube make the X3 useful for closed transfers and top-draw sampling. BrewBuilt notes that the conical includes a built-in 15 psi PRV, but that PRV is not sufficient for active pressure fermentation because it can become clogged with krausen. To ferment under pressure, or to seal/cap an active fermentation, use BrewBuilt's dedicated Pressure Fermentation Kit and follow the manufacturer instructions.
Choosing a size
Choose the X3 size around your actual batch volume, headspace needs, dry-hop load, and whether you plan to harvest yeast or pressure transfer. The smaller sizes fit advanced homebrew systems, while the 25 and 38 gallon options make more sense for larger batches, pilot brewing, or brewers who want extra headspace.
