Brew-in-a-Bag
Brew-in-a-Bag Equipment for BIAB Brewing
Brew-in-a-Bag equipment helps brewers make all-grain beer with a simpler mash and lauter setup. Instead of moving wort through a separate mash tun, BIAB uses a strong mesh bag inside the kettle so the grain can mash, drain, and be removed before the boil.
BIAB works best when the bag, kettle, heat source, crush, and lifting plan all match the batch size. A bag that is too small can restrict the mash. A kettle without enough volume can make full-volume mashing harder. A good thermometer, sturdy paddle, and sensible grain handling make the process easier and more repeatable.
Build a practical BIAB setup
- Bag fit: choose a mesh bag sized for the kettle and grain bill, with enough strength for wet grain.
- Kettle volume: leave room for strike water, grain displacement, stirring, and boil-off.
- Grain crush: use a crush that extracts well without turning the bag into a slow-draining paste.
- Process control: track mash temperature, stir thoroughly, and plan how the bag will drain safely.
