O.G. Haze E. Hazy Double IPA Extract Recipe Kit
O.G. Haze E. is a big, old-school-meets-modern hazy Double IPA for brewers who want an aggressive hop bill, a full-strength gravity target, and a finished beer that does not hold back. This is not a gentle, low-bitterness hazy pale ale. It is a high-impact 5 gallon extract recipe kit with layered American hop character, a firm 126 IBU target, and an estimated 8.3% ABV.
The recipe is modeled after one of the early hazy IPA formulations, with nearly a pound of hop additions across classic American varieties. Simcoe®, Magnum, CTZ, Centennial, Apollo, and Amarillo® bring citrus, pine, resin, grapefruit, orange, floral notes, and deep hop intensity. Carastan and white wheat add malt color, texture, and haze support, while Belgian candi sugar helps push the gravity without making the beer overly heavy.
Beer Profile
- Style: Hazy Double IPA / strong hazy IPA
- Batch Size: 5 gallons
- Original Gravity: 1.074
- Estimated ABV: 8.3%
- Bitterness: 126 IBUs
- Color: 8 SRM

Flavor and Brewing Character
Expect a bold, hop-saturated beer with citrus peel, pine, resin, grapefruit, orange, and floral hop character. The bitterness is intentionally assertive, but the extract base, wheat, specialty malt, and candi sugar help support the beer’s strength and body. If you like heavily hopped American IPAs and want a hazy kit with more old-school bite than soft modern juice, this is the right lane.

Fermentation Requirements
- Fermenter: Use a clean, sanitized fermenter with enough headspace for a healthy 5 gallon fermentation. This is a high-gravity, heavily hopped beer, so give the yeast room to work.
- Temperature control: Keep fermentation steady in the yeast’s recommended ale range. Avoid letting the beer run too warm, especially early in fermentation.
- Gravity check: Confirm fermentation is complete with stable gravity readings before bottling or kegging.
- Oxygen control: Treat finished hazy IPA gently. Avoid splashing during transfers and packaging to protect hop aroma and color.
Brewing Notes
- Read the included Brewmaster instructions before brew day. This kit uses a large hop load, so organizing hop additions ahead of time makes the brew day smoother.
- Stir extract thoroughly off heat. Fully dissolve the malt extract before returning the kettle to heat to reduce scorching risk.
- Use good sanitation after the boil. Anything that touches cooled wort or finished beer should be clean and sanitized.
- Drink fresh. Big hazy IPAs are best while the hop aroma is still bright.
