Intense Tropical Hazy IPA Extract Recipe Kit for a Big, Juicy Hazy IPA Brew Day

Intense Tropical Hazy IPA is a 5 gallon extract with grains recipe kit built for brewers who want the bigger, more saturated side of modern hazy IPA: pale orange haze, plush body, heavy tropical aroma, and a smooth finish that keeps the hop character expressive instead of harsh.

This extract version uses Pilsen Light and Bavarian Wheat dry malt extract for the core gravity, then keeps a real partial mash in the process so the oats and wheat still contribute texture, haze stability, and foam. Trident, Citra, El Dorado, and Azacca layer tropical fruit, citrus, mango, pineapple, pear, candy-like fruit, and stone-fruit aromatics, while 2 sachets LalBrew Pomona Hybrid IPA Yeast supports the fruit-forward profile.

This is the extract with grains version. If you want full mash control, see the Intense Tropical Hazy IPA all-grain recipe kit.

Beer Profile

  • Style: Hazy IPA / New England-style IPA
  • Batch Size: 5 gallons
  • Estimated ABV: Approximately 6.8–7.0%
  • Process: Extract with grains / partial mash
  • Boil Time: 60 minutes
  • Yeast: 2 sachets LalBrew Pomona Hybrid IPA Yeast

Grain Milling

We automatically mill the grains included with SoCal Brewing Supply beer recipe kits so they are ready for brew day. If you want the grains left unmilled, please add that request in the shopping cart notes before checkout. We’ll do our best to support unmilled requests when packing your order.

Flavor and Brewing Character

Expect a hop-forward hazy IPA with ripe tropical fruit, citrus, mango, pineapple, pear, stone fruit, and soft candy-like fruit character. The extract base keeps the brew day more approachable, while the partial mash helps the beer avoid the thin, one-dimensional feel that can happen when a hazy IPA is built from extract alone.

Detailed Kit Contents

  • Rahr White Wheat Malt: 8 oz.
  • Rice Hulls: 4 oz.
  • Trident Pellet Hops: 3 oz.
  • Citra Pellet Hops: 2 oz.
  • El Dorado Pellet Hops: 2 oz.
  • Azacca Pellet Hops: 2 oz.
  • Large muslin grain bag: 1

Fermentation Requirements

  • Fermenter: Use a clean, sanitized fermenter with enough headspace for a healthy 5 gallon IPA fermentation.
  • Temperature control: ferment around 66–70°F for a clean, expressive Pomona profile.
  • Dry hop handling: Add the dry hops near the end of fermentation and limit contact to about 3–5 days.
  • Oxygen control: Keep transfers gentle after fermentation starts slowing. Hazy IPA aroma fades quickly when finished beer is exposed to oxygen.

Extract Brew Day Notes

  • This is a partial mash, not a simple steep: Hold the crushed grain bag around 152–153°F so the oats and wheat contribute properly.
  • Add extract off heat: Stir DME in thoroughly before returning the kettle to heat to avoid scorching.
  • Add wheat DME late: Adding the Bavarian Wheat DME at flameout helps preserve a lighter color.
  • Optional kettle additions: Yeast nutrient and Whirlfloc are not included, but you may add them with 10 minutes left in the boil if you normally use them.
  • Whirlpool around 170°F: This helps preserve saturated hop aroma while limiting rough bitterness.
  • Drink fresh: This beer is best while the dry-hop aroma is bright.
