Biofine Clear | Clarifying Agent for Beer, Wine & Cider
Biofine Clear for Beer, Wine, and Cider Clarification
Biofine Clear is a vegan-friendly liquid fining agent used after fermentation to help settle yeast and haze-forming particles. It is made from purified colloidal silicic acid, also called colloidal silica or SiO2, in water. For brewers, winemakers, and cider makers, it is a practical option when a batch needs clearer presentation without using gelatin or other animal-derived finings.
Use Biofine Clear when the beverage has finished fermenting and you are ready to clarify before packaging or transfer. Good mixing matters. The fining works best when it is distributed evenly through the beer, wine, or cider rather than poured into one spot and left unmixed.
What Biofine Clear Does
- Clarifies finished beer, wine, and cider: helps compact yeast and haze-forming material so clearer liquid can be packaged or transferred.
- Vegan-friendly fining option: useful when you want to avoid gelatin, isinglass, or other animal-derived clarifiers.
- Fast settling support: often used when a batch needs clearer appearance before bottling or kegging.
- Available sizes: sold in 1 oz and 4 oz bottles for small-batch use.
Biofine Clear Dosage and Use
Biofine dosage should be measured, not guessed. Kerry lists a recommended Biofine Clear range of 3.79-37.85 mL per 5 gallon batch. The manufacturer's ideal volume is 22.52 mL per 5 gallon batch, which is about 1.5 tbsp. Use that ideal dose as the practical starting point for most 5 gallon batches, then adjust only when your process or trial results call for it.
Add Biofine Clear after fermentation when the beer, wine, or cider is ready to clarify. Mix gently but thoroughly so the fining is distributed through the batch, then allow time for sediment to settle before packaging. Avoid overdosing, and do not freeze the product during storage.

If you are working earlier in the process rather than clarifying finished beer, BrewTan B (Tanal B) is a mash and kettle gallotannin used for haze-active protein and stability control before fermentation.
